Obituary for Edward Joseph Phelps

Edward Joseph  Phelps
Edward Joseph Phelps, 91, Denmark, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 8, 2017with his loving wife Lois and family at his side. He was born on April 24, 1925 to the late Fred and Mary (Puttman) Phelps in Green Bay. Ed was a 1944 graduate of Green Bay East High School. After high school he served his country in WWII in the U.S. Army in the Phillippines and he spent six months in Japan immediately after their surrender. On October 14, 1950, Ed married Lois Barta at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral. Ed was employed at Kriwanek Bros Ford Garage in Denmark, Standard Oil as a mechanic, and was UW-Green Bay maintenance supervisor for 30 years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of American Legion Post #0363, Denmark, the NRA and Army Reserve 953rd Ordnance. Ed was a member of St. James Catholic Church and prayed the rosary daily. Spending time at his north woods cabin near Tipler, he loved to go hunting and fishing and could spend hours on the water with his boys.

Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Lois; daughters, Kristine (Giovanni) Barone-Adesi, Switzerland; Kathryn (Jeffery) Haanstad, Hartland; Karen Margaret Phelps, Green Bay; Mary (Alan) Wesoloski, Abrams; sons, Thomas (Janeen), Denmark; Frederick (Debra), Denmark; Joseph (Joan), Tuscaloosa, Ala.; grandchildren, Katerina Barone-Adesi, Victoria Barone-Adesi, Brian (Sheila) Haanstad, Carrie Haanstad, Rebecca (Derek) Sizer, Eric Haanstad, Tammi (Mike) Dittmer, Timothy (Jennifer) Phelps, Charles (Angie) Phelps, Katie (Victor) Barrientos, Anna Lois Phelps, Maria Phelps, Jennifer Wesoloski, Kayla Wesoloski; great-grandchildren, Makayla Williquette, Spencer, Elizabeth and Emmalee Phelps, Izaac, Jaycob, David and Rebekah Dittmer, Sophie and Wyatt Phelps, Chloe, Esther and Waylon Haanstad, Jayden Huiting, Nesah Barrientos and two more on the way; other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John (Alma) Phelps, Robert Phelps, infant Frederick; infant sister, Margaret; in-laws Otto and Esther Barta.

Family and friends may visit at St. James Catholic Church, 18228 County Road R, Cooperstown on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 after 9:00am until 10:45am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am with Rev. John Becker officiating. Entombment in Allouez Chapel Mausoleum.
