Obituary for Richard A. "Dick" Northway

Richard A. "Dick" Northway
Richard A. “Dick” Northway, 76, of De Pere passed away peacefully on Friday, September 8, 2017. Dick was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin on December 18, 1940 to Edwin and Dorothy Northway. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and completed his recruit training at Parris Island. Dick graduated from the Marine Corps Scout Sniper School and faithfully served his country in combat. Semper Fi.

Dick married Jo Ann Neklewitz on July 9, 1976 and they celebrated their 40th anniversary last year with friends and family. A gifted mechanic, Dick could fix anything and would drop everything to give a helping hand whenever needed. He loved to tinker with small engines but also can lay claim to building a car from scratch. After retiring from Wisconsin Lift Truck, he stayed busy helping where needed at Heyrman Construction and NAPA Auto Parts and fixing lawn mowers and snowblowers at “Dick’s Garage”. Dick was a legendary tailgater who loved his Green Bay Packers. He was the first one in the parking lot setting up the pre-game party for friends and family and would stay after the game to recount all the highlights. Grandpa Dick loved his grandsons (Andrew and Aaron) and you could always find him in his lawn chair at their baseball games.

Dick is survived by his loving wife Jo Ann, son Paul (Kristin) Northway, much loved grandsons Andrew and Aaron Northway, brothers Gary (Ann) Northway, Charles (Carol) Northway, very special sister-in-law Laura (Steve) Blecha, special brother-in-law, Jim (Evie) Neklewitz, numerous nieces and nephews and so many special friends.

A special mention to dear neighbors James & Kristen Hebert who are always there to help or just sit outside and visit. Dick enjoyed the conversations and enjoyed sharing Marine stories with their son, Christopher. Always willing to help, Dick took Christopher and his Marine buddies under his wing and helped them adjust to life after active duty.

In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by three brothers, Larry and two infants (Edwin and Bernard).

Family and friends may visit at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster Ave, De Pere, on Wednesday, September 13, from 4:00pm until the time of service at 7:00pm with Deacon Don Ropson officiating. Military Honors will conclude the evening. Cotter Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be expressed at www.cotterfuneralhome.com

The family wishes to thank the staff at Unity Hospice for the care they provided Dick over the past couple of months.
